Carers and care partners, have often been undervalued in the approach and treatment of aphasia, dysarthria and apraxia. Many are of the mistaken idea that speech therapists are the only ones who should be responsible for helping people talk. It's just not true.
WHAT IS THE REAL VALUE OF A SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST IN THESE POST VIRUS TIMES?
Are Speech therapists important in the process? Of course!
However, they should be training the person with the speaking difficulty simultaneously with the spouse, or care partner of those with aphasia, apraxia, or dysarthria.
This VIDEO is a message from Moshe Mark Ittleman, M.S., CCC/SLP a speech-language pathologist and author of numerous books that address simple and easy ways to help people talk again following stroke or aphasia. He has been helping people talk for over 46 years.
Please take a listen.
