Hi
Good day and I hope the new year has been progressing well for you.
There are so many families across American and world who are overwhelmed when a loved one has a stroke and aphasia. The world of those families and individuals turn topsy turvy and often they are not appropriately advised by others what to do in order to get their loved one talking again.
I believe there is some great work being done with aphasia today, and there is also work that is inappropriate with techniques designed for children, or I pads-electronic devices given to those with speaking difficulties when actually the person is capable of talking again.
Unfortunately families are going through such turbulent times and they are being advised by people who may not really understand approaches to the treatment of aphasia and realizing the no one method or technique will apply to aphasia.
I am including here a hand out which will explain what we are currently offering those families of those with aphasia a way out of the quagmire of confusion.
Many of you know that I have dedicated my professional life of over 46 years to the devotion of helping those with aphasia, and especially by training the people who may live or love them. As important as the family are those therapists who work with aphasia who are looking for the most fun and expedient method to help those with aphasia talk. More therapists are realizing that restoring speech isd a long process and how necessary it is when possible to train the family.
You see the family expects the therapist to fix the problem, when in reality it is those who have both family and therapist who make the most progress.
If aphasia therapy was not fun for me, I would not be doing it today, and I show both families and therapists the ways to have a satisfying and successful experience with helping people with aphasia talk.
