Communication breakdowns can readily occur with persons who have aphasia or those who are learning the English language. You communicate something to them or vice-versa and each person “thinks” they understood the other, but in reality, not. It then becomes easy to get upset, and blame the other for “not listening” or indicating they understood the message especially if there is a conflict or a misinterpretation of the other’s message.
DON'T LET COMMUNICATION BREAKDOWNS LEAD TO CONFLICT
This can be a major conflict in the lives of the family members, but it does not have to be as long as at least one of the individuals realizes this is bound to occur due to the circumstances. Chances are it will also happen in the future.
BE LOVING, ACCEPTING, REMEMBER WHAT A FRIEND OF OURS SAID TODAY: MAKE LOVE...NOT WAR!
We must realize that it will periodically occur, and when it does to be especially cognizant, loving and understanding and aware of the potential problem and chalk it up to the circumstance.
There should be no blame and no upset; it’s just the way it is!
